Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Jesus had gone into his home town and started doing stuff, teaching in the synagogue, and so on. As he was there, the people from his town were like, "Who does this dude think he is getting all wise guy on us? We know his bros. We know his sisters. We know he's a carpenter and his mom is Mary. He's not pulling anything over on us. We're all too familiar with him."
It then says how because they didn't honor and believe him, he didn't do any mighty works there. He healed a few sick people and stuff, but he didn't do anything big. They didn't esteem him. They didn't think much of him. They knew all about him and weren't impressed. He was old hat, old news, been there, done that.
These verses got me thinking. You see I want to see God's hand moving in my life and in the lives if those around me. I've seen enough normal. I'd sure like to see supernatural. I want to see mighty works.
I wonder if the things of God have grown old to me. I grew up with Jesus, I know his brothers and sisters. I grew up in church and in a Christian home. I've read the Bible, I've listened to preaching and teaching, I know all about Jesus. Has he become old hat, been there, done that to me. Have I been around the things of God so long that I've let them stop impressing me and, therefore, I don't see any mighty works?
Have I let Jesus become all too familiar?
